In 2001 at the Asian Junior Championships in the Boys’ single event held in Taipei Gymnasium, Taipei, Taiwan, and won bronze with Ardiansyah from Indonesia with a 4–15, 8–15 points.

After the 2001 Asian Junior Championships, he went to a senior event, the World Badminton Grand Prix sanctioned by the International Badminton Federation (IBF) in the 2003 U.S. opening which has been held since 1983, and had a second runner-up title against Chien Yu-hsiu from Chinese Taipei with 15–5, 6–15, 12-15 points.

In 2004 and in the 2008 BWF International Challenge/Series Ahn Hyun-suk won gold medals. In 2004 Vietnam Satellite was held in Vietnam and won with Nguyễn Tiến Minh from Vietnam with a 13–15, 15–9, 15–10 points. In 2008 Singapore Satellite was held in Singapur and won with Pakkawat Vilailak from Thailand with 21–19, 21–15 points

Ahn Hyun-suk also started his career in 2016 as a coach of the Yonex South Korean team.
